This developing social firm offers on-the-job training and work experience allowing individuals to develop their confidence and skills as they embark on a pathway towards employment specifically in the textiles industry.
The pathway begins with a NCFE level 1 qualification in soft furnishings. This is a 12-week course and covers several topics, for example; fabric quality, designs, tools and equipment, basic construction techniques, health and safety in the workroom, planning and producing a personal project.
The next opportunity is to join the Work Progression Programme. This programme offers training on industrial sewing machines and trainees learn at their own pace. The aim is to learn industry specific techniques and necessary aspects of a work ethic.
When trainees are ready for a further challenge, they are offered a work experience placement in the busy and vibrant Textiles workshop. Here they will meet the work team who are there to help people reach their potential in a supportive and safe environment.
The business manufactures soft furnishings for industry and private customers and we pride ourselves on our quality and customer service. Trainees begin by working one day a week gaining real work experience and adapting to a real working environment. They will progress by increasing their days and learning to interact with the workforce, working as a team. This will help to secure their place as an employee in the industry.
Our current customers include local heritage museums and buildings and we are currently producing curtains for Aston Hall's Great Dining Room. Aston Hall chose to use Textiles because of our social and ethical remit. We are also proud to say that we are working with customers who supply large upmarket stores such as Liberty of London, Paperchase, the Victoria and Albert Museum as well as many other stockists in the UK and around the world. We have helped them to develop products such as their range of cushions, coin purses, pencil cases and wash bags.
Textiles also offers an embroidery service including the branding of promotional clothing and workwear. We have two industrial 12-colour embroidery machines creating another vocational training opportunity to help trainees find work in the industry.
